How to Make Bust Sling Bras & Variations

Design Variations

Once you have created the basic pattern for a Bust Sling you can create a variety of different styles. Weeks Three and Four of the class shows how to create patterns for the styles shown. Sewing instructions are included for creating these garments.

Week Three explores different bra styles. Week Four shows how to change the design lines for the top and illustrates how to add a skirt at the rib cage band to create swimsuit tops, and Empire dresses and gowns.

Week Three Examples

Basic Bust Sling Bra Covered Bra Bra Uncovered Bra Racerback Bra
The Basic Bust Sling Bra can be changed to a variety of different configurations. These two photos show how the basic bra in a nude color looks with an open collar neckline. The Racerback adds wide support across the back. It can be used for an athletic bra.
Racerback Bra Racerback Bra Nursing Bra Hybrid Bra
The two sides can be joined at center front with a bridge. This example shows the bridge as a front zipper opening. The Bust Sling follows the natural contours of the body making it appropriate for a nursing bra. The Hybrid Bra provides broader coverage of the rib cage.

Week Four Examples

Swimsuit Top Swim Top back with wide straps Red Velvet Front
Red Velvet Back
These two Swim Tops use the same pattern, rings, and "X" back. The width of the straps is flexble. They may be changed from an "X" back to separate ties at the neck and rib cage.
Evening Gown Evening Gown
This dress uses a princess seam bust sling for the top. This evening gown uses the Bust Sling structure to eliminate the need for a separate undergarment.
