Body Double Supplies and Tools

This page describes the supplies and tools for making Body Doubles. For several techniques of creating these body doubles I will be giving you variations so you can select the procedure that is most appropriate to the resources you have available.

If you have any questions about the specific supplies you will need, you can always wait until the appropriate techniques are described for a given week. These supplies should be relatively easy to acquire locally.

Basic Supplies

  • 1 to 3 - 30" x 40" Utility or Process Board (quantity depends on the forms you make.)
  • 2" Masking Tape
  • 3/4" or 1" Masking Tape
  • 2 - 12" x 24" Cardboard sheets
  • PVC Cement ( For working with PVC pipe as indicated below. )

Custom Bra Form Supplies

  • Muslin or similar fabric
  • Buckram
  • Millinery Wire
  • Batting (old pillow)

Full Body Double and/or Pants Forms

  • 2 - 1" x 4' PVC pipe (or Cardboard Tubing from a fabric store)
  • 2 - 1/2" x 30" Iron Pipe
  • 2 - 1/2" Iron Pipe Floor Flanges
  • 8 - 3/4" x 8 wood screws ( 8 is the size of the screw. )
  • 1 - 3/4" x 12" x 12" plywoond (for base)

Torso Form: PVC Waist-to-Hip Core

  • 1 - 1/2" x 30" x 40" Foam Core Board  
  • 1 - 1" x 12" PVC pipe
  • 1 - 1" PVC Male Adapter
  • 1 - 1" Iron Pipe Floor Flange

Wood Waist-to-Hip Core

  • 1 - 1/2" x 24" x 48"
  • 1 - 3/4" x 2" x4' wood board
  • 24 - 1 1/4" Wood Screws
  • Wood Glue
  • 1 box of 3/8" upholstery tacks

Torso Form: Iron Pipe Stand

  • 1 - 3/4" Iron Pipe ( Waist to Floor length )
  • 1 - 3/4" Iron Pipe Floor Flange
  • 4 - 3/4" x 8 wood screws ( 8 is the size of the screw. )

PVC Pipe Stand

  • 1 - 3/4" x 10' length of pipe
  • 4 - 3/4" Elbows
  • 4 - 3/4" Caps
  • 1 - 3/4" Cross
  • 1 - 3/4" Male Adapter
  • 1 - 3/4" Threaded T

Mini-Me Forms

  • 1/4" Graph Paper
  • Poster board
  • Scotch Tape
  • 4 - Knurled Nuts
  • 1 - Glass Shape Holder
  • Pipe, Couplings, & Nipples (as required for length)
  • 1/4" wood dowel (for Pants and Full Body Forms)

Tools

  • Tape Measure
  • Yard Stick (or other long ruler)
  • Ruler
  • 1/4 & 1/2 Scale Rulers (Download a PDF file for the Scale Rulers here.)
  • Flexible Curve (for cross sections)
  • Two squares (These can be made from mat board.)
  • C-Thru Ruler
  • Pencil
  • Eraser
  • Paper Scissors
  • Mat Knife
  • Cutting Board
  • Pattern Paper (Click here for a PDF Example of the paper I use.)
  • Screw Driver or Drill with Screw Driver Bit
  • Hacksaw (or Fine Tooth Saw)

Tools for Wood Torso Waist-to-Hip Core

  • Drill with 1-1/8" Bit
  • Sabre Saw

Tools for Mini-Me Forms

  • Utility Knife
  • Drill with 1/4" Bit
  • Metal File
